THE ART OF COMMISSIONS - How it works

Aside from my everyday Studio work I delight in the opportunity to take on commissioned pieces.  Sometimes your home or office requires a particular size or you're looking for a complimentary color or even a specific subject matter.

Commissions are the perfect way to address such needs.  Annually I'm asked to create on average about ten different works for clients.  I really do love the challenge and each opportunity lends the perfect chance for me to share my skill set in the most unique manner.

Whether you're looking for a bold or sublime contemporary work to a traditional landscape no task is too small or great.

Depending on my calendar, your needs, scale and complexity, commissions are usually completed in eight to ten weeks.  My fees for commissions begin at $3500 and vary according to size, complexity and travel.

A CONTEMPORARY COMMISSION

Here is the space to create a magnificent work.

Sometimes the simplest item such as a pillow has the perfect color palette.

I make my own palette of colors to work with to share with each client.

I have measured and customized 24 x 60 inch canvas's for this project.

Here I'm working on just one of the numerous layers these pieces incorporated.

After taking the works out on location they needed a bit of modification, here I am tweaking the hue of the blues.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here the completed commission is installed .  Three beautiful 24 x 60 panels.  The work was created in six weeks delivered and installed. The title is Blue Persuassion.

A TRADITIONAL LANDSCAPE COMMISSION

My client called and asked if I would do a painting of this scene. Big Sur! I'm quite familiar and was delighted to accept.

Using his photograph and my library of inspiration I put together the concept of what the painting would look like to scale.

Here I am in the Studio getting the painting underway.

Now with more than a week into it, I'm making great progress as I move into the foreground.

Love the way I have used shoreline to draw you into the piece.

Nearly completed but now I want to add some entertainment to the sky and weave it all together.

Here is the final work completed. Standing beside it gives you a great perspective of the scale which is 36 x 48 inches.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"Big Sur" is a magnificent addition to this collectors portfolio.  For nearly two decades this family have followed my colorful path across the country acquiring a variety of extraordinary originals to their residences.
